Echinocereus coccineus v paucispinus Cactus Lover

The Scarlet Hedgehog Cactus is a large Echinocereus up to a foot tall and 3-4 feet wide.  Individual stems can be very “chubby”.  A mature plant may host hundreds of scarlet trumpet flowers in May.  This hardier form from the Guadalupe Mountains of NM is very easy to grow.  This early-flowering cactus is favored by hummingbirds and honeybees.  Zone 5. Sold in a 2.5-inch pot.
